In Case of a MYM Data Emergency

If one of your MYM-DOS data files has become corrupted and your backups aren't helping, MYM-expert Mike Starkey just may be able to help. Just click on his name to send him an e-mail describing your problem. He will very likely ask you to e-mail him the broken database and charge you something for his time to fix it.  But please note: any repair work he does for you is strictly between you and him. Neither I nor MECA can take any responsibility whatsoever for whatever you and Mike work out. All I can tell you is that I would happily entrust him with my data. But that's no guarantee of anything with yours.

(One do-it-yourself fix that often does the trick if the program won't load . . . Go into DOS and copy a recent backup version of little.dbs over the one in your active data file.  You won't lose any data, and -- keep your fingers crossed -- you may find yourself back in business.)

Year 2000

I assume MYM will work fine in January because we used 4-digit years in all the later versions.  But to check, first make lots of backups of all your data.  Then enter the program with a date in 2000 and play around to see what happens.  The places there could well be problems (and this you can't test) is with CheckFree and/or updating portfolio prices over the phone.  Some day, I suppose I may have to switch to Quicken.  But even then I intend to Alt-tab constantly to MYM's Reminder Pad and Cardfile.

Converting Stock Quotes to MYM

I haven't tried it myself, but if you're having trouble updating your portfolios, you might find help at http://home.att.net/~ConvertTrack/index.htm.

If QuoteLink Stopped Working Dec 1, 1999

Try this (DOS V11 or V12, I think):

1. Go to FILE, PROGRAM SETUP, COMMUNICATIONS.

2. Highlight "CompuServe" and select "Service Setup."

3. That screen has a hidden F9 function key to edit the setup and scripts. Press F9 and you'll see.

4. Very carefully, replace the old login script (which begins ^D^D^C^WID: ) with this login script (beginning with an asterisk and ending with a colon, and all on one line, even though it takes more than one line here): *^U^M^WPASSWORD: ^P^M^WOK^W!^SGO CIS:MYMQUO^M^WINTERFACE: ^S100^M^W:

5. Make the new logout script simply a single asterisk: *

Upgrading to a Newer Version

If you're really wedded to MYM but need to buy a newer version, some people have reported success buying "used software" from: www.exchangehq.com/index.htm .  I have no connection with this company and cannot vouch for your results.

Converting to Quicken

I have not tried this, but to convert from MYM DOS or Windows, check out: www.respmech.com/mym2qifw/default.htm .

My own plan is to stick with MYM V12 -- which runs fine under Windows '98 -- until the cows come home (no veiled allusion to Gateway) and there is not computer left in the world that can run a DOS program.
